Survey of the visual arts in Europe from the late 16th century to the end of the 18th century. Explores the work of the era's major artists in relation to the larger historical, social and cultural contexts of their time. Emphasis on new developments in subject matter, patronage and art theory. Prerequisite: ART 201 for majors; no prerequisite for non-majors. Three hours per week with enhancement. Meets General Education IIIA or IIIC (Prior to Fall 2008: IB).
