This course is designed to provide a broad range of practical and theoretical information about substance abuse as a major problem in our society. Students examine and evaluate the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs, the causes of substance abuse and methods of prevention, recognition and treatment. Special effort is directed toward the development of skills and expertise in dealing with alcohol and drug problems. Three lecture hours per week. Prerequisite: SOC201 or PSY101.
