This course deals with teaching the concepts of numeration, computation, estimation, problem solving, time and space, geometry, modeling, measurement and graphs, and inference. The course provides current approaches to the teaching of mathematics in grades 1 - 6. Emphasis will be given to why and how to get children actively involved in doing mathematics via learning experiences that facilitate discovery. Three lecture hours per week plus assigned field experiences. Required for Education majors, Elementary Concentration. Prerequisites: EDU100, EDU208A, EDU250A, MAT123, MAT124.
