This is the first course in the music theory sequence. Topics include notation, scales, modes, tonality, intervals, chords, figured bass, cadences, non-harmonic tones, and melodic organization. Three lecture hours per week. Required for all Music Majors. Required for all Music Minors as part of a 2-course music theory sequence. Offered every spring semester. Prerequisite: MUS120 or a passing grade on fundamentals portion of Music Theory Placement Examination.
