A chronological and thematic consideration of the dominant attitudes, value, imagery, and symbols involving the natural environment in American Literature from the Puritan period to modern times. The course will involve readings in poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, as well as major critical responses to the theme of nature in American Literature. Three lecture hours per week. Prerequisite: ENG102.
