This course deals with the physical basis for the reactivity of organic compounds and methods used to study reaction mechanisms. Topics to be covered include stereochemistry, structure and bonding, computational chemistry, solvation and structure-reactivity relationships. Methods used to elucidate organic reaction mechanisms will be discussed and their application to various classes of reactions will be studied. Three lecture hours per week. Not open to student who have received credit for CHE439. Prerequisites: CHE341, CHE342.
