ARTS 431 -- PAINTING III: Thematic R&D (4) Explores multiple formal and conceptual approaches to painting. Emphasis on research of the theme or idea chosen by the student. Development of intellectual capacity and ability to conceive, initiate and complete original research. The student will investigate contemporary artists relevant to their own work. Movement towards increasingly complex and mature work. Broad exploration of the chosen subject of research. Critique based in contemporary visual arts practices and in a variety of other approaches will be applied. Lectures and presentations address relevant theoretical, historical and critical concepts. Prerequisite: ARTS 330. Fall and Spring.
