The second in a three-course introduction to jazz improvisation. Topics include blues as a genre, the basics of composing, chord scales, diminished scales, modes, basic chord substitutions, melodic concepts, tension tones, advanced harmony, standard jazz harmony, Brazilian and Cuban influences, ear training and rhythmic exercises. A performance-oriented class, where students play weekly. Prerequisite: PER 351. 2 crs.
