The first in a three-course introduction to jazz improvisation. Topics include general improvisation as explored through world cultures; one, two, and three chord vamp studies; sequencing, embellishment, call and response, rhythmic exercises, and major and minor scales and modes. Styles and genres include tango, flamenco, klezmer, African, Middle Eastern, Celtic, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban. A performanceoriented class, where students play weekly. Prerequisite: MU 113. 2 crs.
