This course examines literary works within the context of the Victorian era, during which time technological advances led to the rise of factories and the growth of urban centers throughout England. This cultural shift had a profound impact on literature, with novels such as Jane Eyre, Great Expectations, and North and South tracing the migration from the isolation of the countryside to the bustle of city streets.
