Students are introduced to the reforms and social movements in nineteenth- and twentieth-century U.S. history. The intent is to understand the successes and failures of reformers and the social, political, and religious movements they mobilize. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing the historical context, the issues at stake, the role of the media and of public opinion, and the strategy and tactics of each movement.
