3 credits Focusing on principles of drawing with the needs of the fashion illus trator in mind, students will work from the model to pursue the basic study of drapery and movement. Assignments are geared toward illustrat ing the mechanics of the body and relating the function of clothing to the human form. The physical properties and appropriate uses of cloth will be examined both historically and through contemporary trends. Emphasis will be placed on techniques suitable for black and white reproduction, but experimentation with a wide variety of drawing and painting tech niques, as well as basic color theory as it applies to this course, will be introduced.
