3 credits This course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary when emergency first aid is required and medical assistance is not immediately available. It also incorporates personal safety and acci dent prevention information. Topics and training included in: defibrillator use; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; respiratory emergencies; wounds, wound care and hemorrhaging; extremity injuries; athletic injury care; soft tissue injuries; concussions and other severe brain trauma; spinal cord injury; heart attacks and strokes; special illnesses: epilepsy (seizures), and diabetes; environmental emergencies; water emergencies; poisoning and substance abuse emergencies; and more. New York State and American Red Cross Certified. Offered: 2008 - 2010.
