3 credits This course is designed to familiarize students with basic theories and rudimentary techniques of counseling as they apply to the aging and their families. It introduces students to the special emotional and psychologi cal needs faced by the aging and their families, and how counseling can support individuals and families as they face these transitions and life adjustments. The course will explore how diversity, including culture, eth nicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and economic status, differen tially affect both the adjustments that individuals face and the nature of the counseling process. Prerequisite: Six credits in Psychology. Recommended: PSY 2017A, PSY 3140A. Offered: 2008 - 2010.
