3 credits A chronological study of selected masterpieces in the vocal, choral, and early operatic literature. Particular examples of early opera from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries are examined, as well as important examples of vocal and choral music from the Middle Ages to the beginning of the twentieth century. Emphasis is placed upon the identification of these works through listening experiences. Offered: 2008 - 2010.
