3 credits Russia since 1800 to the present, with reference to the formation of the autocracy, the rise of the Russian Church, the development of serfdom, and the distinctive Russian nobility. In the modern period, focus is on reform in state and society, foreign relations, and new reformist and revo lutionary movements, the fall of autocracy, the triumph of Bolshevism, the era of civil war, economic plannings, Lenin, the years from Stalin through Khrushchev in the context of World War II, and the Cold War.
