3 credits A study of the factors and events precipitating the Civil War and the conflict itself. The first half of the course will examine slavery, abolition ism, the Mexican-American War, and the crises of the 1850s. Civil War top ics will comprise all major battles, tactics and strategy, economics, diplo macy, weapons, soldier life and medicine. The course will also analyze national leadership, including the era's political parties and presidents, emphasizing Abraham Lincoln's presidency (U.S.). Prerequisite: HST 1021C. Offered: 2008 - 2010.
