3 credits The course traces the history of the Gothic novel beginning in 1765 with Walpole's The Castle of Otranto through the twentieth century, focus ing on English/Irish authors such as Radcliffe, Godwin, Lewis, Maturin, Hogg, Stevenson, Stoker, and Le Fanu as well as American Gothic authors such as Poe, James, and Faulkner.
