3 credits Provides students with the knowledge and skills to teach elementary science in accordance with the Learning Standards in Mathematics, Science, and Technology. The course reviews the concepts and processes of elementary science and how these can be taught using a variety of methods. Emphasis is placed on the implementation of "hands on science" in the classroom. Deductive and inductive reasoning are used to reach mathematical conclusions to solve scientific problems. Particular attention is given the National and State learning standards to model content, teaching and assessment with emphasis on the New York State Assessments. Students are also taught how to integrate literacy acquisition and the Learning Standards for Health, Physical Education and Home Economics into the teaching of science and mathematics. Prerequisites: EDU 3103N, EDU 3104N, EDU 3146N and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Corequisites: EDU 4113N and EDU 4149N. Offered: 2008 - 2010.
