Matrix methods in optics. Lenses thick and thin, mirrors, prisms and other passive optical elements and systems. Propagation of light in materials. Dispersion and its effects. Special topics in geometric and wave optics. Laboratory complements classwork. prereqs: PHYS 120 or 121 or equiv; MATH 125 5 hrs, 4 cr.
