Prerequisite: Admission to upper division and successful completion of first semester upper division. Designed to allow students to expand their knowledge and understanding for end-of-life nursing care. This course will provide a learning experience to expand the student's knowledge in providing comfort, utilization of special assessment techniques for complex patient symptoms, as well as assisting the family and patient to cope with suffering, grief, loss and bereavement. The course will build upon basic nursing principles and will expand student's working knowledge of legal and ethical principles, ability to analyze the complex issues surrounding dying and barriers to competent end-of-life care.
