Cross-listed with EC 344. This course is designed to increase knowledge of the use of Augmented Communication Systems and alternative communication to enable children who are severely communicatively impaired (e.g., neurological; pervasive developmental disorders; sensory impairments) with a way to communicate. The emphasis will be on various types of ACS. Alternative systems (Bliss Symbol Board; Cued Speech), appropriate intervention strategies, procedures and guidelines for implementation.
