This is a seminar devoted to topics focusing on particular aspects of Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean and/or Afro- Latin music. The quality, type and intensity of Africanisms in the music of a region, a group or an era will be explored. An intensive examination of the development of new musical idioms, including the reciprocity of African with European influences. A research paper or project is required. Prerequisites: AFST 245 and junior/senior standing or permission of the instructor. Notes: Repeatable for credit. Also listed as MUSC 479.
