(same as English 4780). Examines folklore and artistic expression of women in relations to feminist theory and in multicultural contexts. Includes verbal genres (narrative/ ship of the Self (3).(same as Political Science 4860). Introduces students to foundational premises of liberal political thought through examination of the dispute between Locke and Filmer. Analyzes subsequent rethinking of that debate in works by Rousseau, Wollstonecraft, nineteenth-century American slaves, contemporary feminists, and communitarians. Prerequisite: sophomore standing.
