This course prepares students to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. Training includes anatomy, safety, blood-drawing techniques, specimen preparation, equipment maintenance, and associated clerical, customer service, and basic work skills. Prior to entering clinical setting in the final weeks of class, students must show proof of all standard immunizations as well as a current TB test and at least the first of the Hepatitis B series. Employers in the healthcare setting will require a finger print background check and drug testing prior to hiring. A UNM-Valencia Campus Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of this course. Prerequisites: Satisfactory score on placement tests for writing, reading, and mathematics or completion of ENGL 100 and MATH 099 with a grade of "CR." Co-requisite: PBT102L.
