Prepares providers to recognize medical and traumatic emergencies and to intervene and stabilize patients while in transport to an advanced care facility. Meets the 1998 EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum requirements and incorporates New Mexico EMT-B scope of practice. Provides lecture and lab instruction to prepare the student to sit for New Mexico and National Registry testing. Students must obtain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers CPR before the first class session.
