Prereq. MT 123; MT 124; for chemistry majors, MT 148 completed and MT 152 completed or concurrent; for mathematics majors, MT 253 - The student is introduced to the principles of classical mechanics. She learns to apply these principles, in conjunction with her knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and calculus, to solve practical and idealized problems dealing with the behavior of material objects. The development of problem-solving and analytical skills is stressed throughout the course. (Separate sections of the course are offered for algebra/trigonometry students and for students who have taken or are enrolled in calculus.)
