This course examines the ways women and mental disorder have been linked in American psychiatric and mental health literature. A gender perspective on several categories of mental disorder is offered, including depression, PMS, hysteria and borderline personality disorder. Clinical approaches to women, including psychoanalysis, feminist therapy and pharmacological treatment are considered.
