This course explores Buddhist psychological methods for dismantling neurotic patterns of suffering and cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, equanimity and sympathetic joy. These higher emotions are known as the Four Immeasurables. Students are introduced to a basic meditation practice and assigned readings in preparation for a 3 1/2 day residential retreat. Instruction draws upon central Buddhist concepts and themes giving students a broad view of Buddhist perspectives with an emphasis on practical self-experiencing.
