Description:
Provides a historical philosophical, legal, and social overview of education. Students will examine how schools are organized, administered and financed. In addition, students will explore the skills and competencies (Teacher Performance Standards) necessary to be an effective teacher. Students are required to participate in field experiences in two of the following education settings; Early Childhood (grades PK-3), Middle Childhood (grades 4-9), or Adolescence to Young Adult (grades 7-12). Such experience will assist students in determining if teaching is a career for them and will also help students decide which major (program) they will pursue. Students will also be required to begin development of their Teacher Development Portfolio and use basic technologies throughout the course.
