The study of issues arising from the intentional or inadvertent abuse or misuse of drugs and food as well as the legal and physical implications of such behavior. Emphasis is placed on theories of causation and treatment methodologies. The course will emphasize the scientific theories related to the causes and treatment for abuse or misuse of substances such as recreational drugs (opiates, hallucinogens, marijuana, steroids), nonprescription and/or over-the-counter drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine. Pre- or co-requisite: NURS 115 or equivalent.
