The course is designed to develop skills necessary for reading and interpreting instrumental scores, namely baton technique, basic understanding of the limitations of the instruments, usage of the left hand in conducting, and rehearsal techniques. In addition, attention is given to score preparation, to the understanding of transposition, interpretation, and to the entire process of non-verbal communication necessary for successful communication as a conductor. Activities will include a study of repertoire and selection of literature for programming of formal concerts. It is hoped that significant "on podium" conductingexperiences will occur. Prerequisite: admission into the B.A. in Music major.
