An introduction to the history of modern architecture, from its intellectual and artistic origins in the nineteenth century through the postwar period. Special emphasis is placed on the consideration of modernism in architecture not just as a narrowly defined stylistic movement, but also as a broader cultural phenomenon through which architects engaged in a changing world.
