Prerequisite: CHE 124 with a grade of C- or better. This course presents organic chemistry with sufficient depth and emphasis on theory for the science major. The material will include nomenclature, properties, reactions, mechanisms and synthesis of organic compounds. Applications of organic chemistry to biological systems are stressed throughout the course. The lab course will introduce the student to basic techniques in organic chemistry and to keeping scientific notebooks. There are three hours of lecture and one four-hour laboratory period each week.
