This course meets State of Nebraska requirements for 40 hour training of individuals to provide medications in nursing homes, assisted living centers, intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded, schools, child care settings or patient homes. A medication aide is trained to work under direct supervision of a caretaker or a licensed health care professional. They provide routine medications by the oral, inhalation, topical and instillation routes when appropriate direction and monitoring is provided. The State of Nebraska Medication Aide written examination is handled outside the scope of this course. College credit is not provided for this course. Prerequisites: 18 year s of age, successful completion of an approved nurse aide course or six months prior experience working as a nurse aide.
