3 semester hours (3 hours of theory per week) Professional nurse leadership and management theories will be explored. Leadership styles and their impact on health care delivery will be examined. The various functions of management will be reviewed. In the role of manager/leader, the student will devise strategies that plan, direct, delegate, evaluate and implement. The focus is on scholarly activities to emphasize increased understanding of the influence of professional nurse caring behaviors within an organizational structure. The promotion of evidence-based practice using interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills will enhance the articulation of global health care issues. Prerequisite: All 100- and 200 level nursing courses.
