5 semester hours (3 credit hours class; 2 credit hours clinical lab) This course presents maternity concepts from conception through postpartum and neonatal periods, focusing on normal and common variations. Family, cultural and environmental influences are included. Basic principles of pharmacology, drug administration and pathophysiology relevant to childbearing are learned. As a member of the health care team, the student provides care for the mother and baby. The student uses the nursing process and assists the licensed professional by collecting, reporting and recording pertinent data. Basic nursing skills relevant to the care of women are learned. Prerequisite: NUR 110.
