4 semester hours (2 credit hours class; 2 credit hours clinical lab) This course presents concepts of holistic practical nurse caring for adults with acute and chronic medical-surgical health problems. Pathophysiology, pharmacology, nutrition, mental health and gerontology concepts are integrated throughout the course. Critical thinking and therapeutic nursing interventions are emphasized through the prioritization of care for one to two adults in the acute, subacute and/or extended care setting. The legal and ethical implications of therapeutical measures are presented.
