This course will be a thematic and historical survey of Asian religions in the United States with an emphasis on the last 40 years. Not only will we study the religions of Asian immigrants, but we will also examine Americans who have converted to religions originating in Asia and the ways that Asian religions have been imagined and portrayed in American elite and popular culture.
