This course will attempt to weigh the impact America's coming of age as a great power has had upon U.S. society and upon the rest of the world. Utilizing a mixture of diplomatic and military history, the course seeks to evaluate how the U.S. has felt about war, peace, and the professional military and the concept of America's "Mission" which had led us both into imperialism and isolationism.(4 credits)
