The broadcasting industry is undergoing dramatic change as new technologies and shifting attitudes toward regulation alter relationships within the industry, rechannel audience viewing, and redirect revenues. This class explores these phenomena though the lens of U.S. broadcast history, and studies the structure of the broadcasting/cable industries, the objectives of radio and television as social forces and cultural influences, program types and existing programs aimed toward the development of acceptable standards for broadcasting.(4 credits)
