This course is designed to introduce students to generalist social work practice and professional conduct. Students will learn the meaning of generalist practice and social work roles at the BSW level. The following frameworks and models will be introduced: empowerment; strengths; ecosystems; and economic and social justice. The course covers the values and ethics of the social work profession, and encourages the student to examine their own values and ethics. As values are examined, issues of diversity, oppression and populations-at-risk are interwoven with the current issues in social work. Integrated into the course is a 20 hour service learning experience in a local social work agency. Meets the Communication Intensive course requirement in the major. FA.
