This course examines issues involving the health behaviors, health status, and health care of people in the United States from a variety of academic perspectives, with emphasis on the perspectives of nursing and the social/behavioral sciences. Some of the specific issues included in this course are: (1) the impact of health behaviors on health status and the health care system, (2) patterns of health status based on gender, age, race, and income, (3) the cost of health care, (4) inequalities in access to health care, and (5) alternative models of health care reform.
