Discussion, one hour; laboratory, six hours. Introduction to the basic laboratory techniques of chemical biology: electrophoresis, plasmid preparation, PCR, protein expression, isolation, and kinetics. Prerequisite: Chemistry 128. NOTE: Chemistry 130A-B-C and 131A-B-C are parallel courses in physical chemistry; both are acceptable to satisfy the physical chemistry requirements for the major. Because of significant differences in course content, students starting in one series may not switch to the other in subsequent quarters.
