Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. A series of fundamental and applied scientific problems are addressed, illustrating the pervasive role of mathematical analysis. Topics may include thermodynamics, chemical equilibria, acid-base chemistry, kinetics, states of matter, electronic structure of atoms and the periodic table, chemical bonding, spectroscopy, and topics from organic, atmospheric, and biochemistry.
