Due to the treaty making process, American Indian tribes have a unique relationship with the United States government. Consequently, this course will address various topics concerning tribal sovereignty, civil and criminal jurisdiction. The status of Indian lands, hunting and fishing rights, etc. The history and implications of various treaties, acts of Congress, as well as recent Federal and Supreme Court decisions pertaining to Indian tribes will be discussed during the course of the semester.
