This is a course designed for liberal arts students. We will present chemistry in its broad cultural, social, and economic contexts. Many of the issues that come up in everyday life can be better understood with recourse to relatively simple chemical ideas. Chemistry is indeed all around us. By exploring the chemistry of consumer products, as well as the chemistry of radiation and pollution we will develop a more sophisticated understanding of the world around us through chemical analysis.
