This course explains the specific functions of the different types of financial intermediaries, the markets in which they operate, and the value and attributes of the financial instruments they utilize. Intermediaries discussed include the Federal Reserve, depository institutions, insurance companies,mutual funds, pension funds and investment bankers. Expanding on topics introduced in previous finance courses, detail is provided on the structure and operation of the markets for, and the attributes and valuation of, different financial instruments including stocks, bonds and derivative securities.
