Three Credits LA This course reviews the history and sociology of social inequality in America within the global context of the modern world system. But its major emphasis is on how political, economic, and technological processes transform the family, religion, and individual character, as well as on forms of collective and individual resistance to such transformations. The nature of historic and contemporary social movements such as the labor movement, the civil rights movement, the women's movement, and the "new right" as collectively organized activity that encourages or discourages social change are prominently considered. Students form "social change groups" in an identified campus or community-based site.
