Three Credits LA This course offers an overview of state government and politics with a primary focus on New York State politics. The social, economic, and political context within which state politics and policy making occurs will be covered. The course will examine linkage mechanisms between citizens and government, including elections, interest groups, and other forms of participation. The policy-making institutions of state government, such as the state legislature, governor, executive agencies, and the courts, will be explored. The course will also cover selected policy areas including criminal justice, social welfare, education, and environmental protection. Prerequisite: POSC 110
